Communication Specialist I

Performing radio and telephone operations. Processing and prioritizing incoming emergency and non-emergency requests for air and ground ambulances. Responsible for dispatching appropriate emergency units, in accordance with procedures. Receive and process information with helicopters and ambulances on missions. Assisting manager and shift supervisor as requested.

Duties:

Performs a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in a 24-hour emergency response facility.
Processes and prioritizes incoming emergency and non-emergency requests for numerous air and ground ambulances.
Determines the nature, location and priority of requests, and dispatches the appropriate emergency unit in accordance with established procedures.
Receives and processes information on a continual basis with numerous helicopters and ground ambulances on missions, maintaining availability, status and location.

Manager, Communication Center

Position Summary.
Manages, directs and performs responsible administrative, technical and supervisory
work, for the effective and efficient 24-hour operation of the Life Link III
Communications Center. The Life Link III Communication Center receives and
processes more than 32,000 requests for service annually, determines level of service and
dispatches Life Link III’s modes of transportation. Has overall management
responsibility for all Communication Center personnel and for ensuring prompt response
to all customer transportation requests and/or customer service issues. Through quality
control measures; updates policies and procedures in coordination with the
Communication Center Manager/Director. Ensures the transportation needs of the
consortium and its members are met in a safe and timely manner.

Qualifications:
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Five years of dispatching experience in an emergency or public safety dispatch
center and experience using Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD) systems; or,
• Two years of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of a Life Link
III Communication Specialist.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Able to speak and write clearly
• Knowledge of Zoll Rescuenet Dispatch preferred.
• Currently licensed as a Minnesota Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency
Medical Dispatcher.

Communication Specialist

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Ability to make independent, clinically and operationally competent decisions in a challenging environment. Ability to adapt to stressful situations; Able to participate in an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care. Effective communication skills including strong verbal and interpersonal skills. Requirements: 

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
1. Current EMTcertification required. Paramedic certification or RN license strongly preferred.
2. National Association of Air-Medical Communications Specialist (Certified Flight Communicator)or equivalent certification received within two years of being hired.
*Associate is responsible for keeping all required licensures and certifications active
3. AHA CPR required
4. ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC or equivalent encouraged.

EDUCATION: High School diploma. College Degree in relevant field encouraged.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Three years of Emergency Medical Services or related field. Direct patient care healthcare provider experience preferred. Communications Specialist experience preferred.
